Aaron Stewart - Interpreting Spectral Music through the music of Giancinto Scelsi

ISA welcomes Aaron Stewart for our next featured presentation. Mr. Stewart’s performance-lecture will give a brief, global overview of the historical roots of Spectral music, the revolutionary approach and reimagination of sound, (sound as a physical matter) the minimizing of authorship, and deriving musical inspiration (content) from the nature of sound itself. Excerpts from Scelsi's Tre Pezzi will be the source for a discussion on analyzing and interpreting this unique repertoire.

Irene Fernández Mena - Mock Audition Series

Professor Irene Fernández Mena returns to ISA for a new series! College auditions are quickly approaching and ISA wants to help. In our Mock Audition Series, students have the opportunity to perform their audition program for an experienced saxophone professor to learn more about how they are perceived in an audition setting. They will also have the chance to run their program in a less stressful environment and to receive guided feedback from an experienced saxophone professor. In this installment, Professor Mena from the Manuel Castillo Superior Conservatory of Music in Seville, Spain, lends her expertise to the ISA community.

Sam Asthana is a Houston-based saxophonist and a board-certified general dentist. Dr. Asthana joins ISA to discuss an important topic for saxophonists: jaw muscles and joints.
