Born in Aichi prefecture, Kazuya Mon started saxophone at the age of 12. After graduating from Aichi Prefectural Meiwa High School Music Department, he graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts, where he is currently enrolled in the second year of the master's program. Awards include the 24th Japanese Classical Music Competition Saxophone Division High School Division 2nd (highest), First Prize in the 17th Junior Saxophone Competition sponsored by the Japan Saxophone Association, and the Encouragement Award in the Woodwind Division of the 22nd Kobe Shimbun Matsukata Hall Music Awards, the highest award offered.
Mr. Mon also received the Ataka Award in the third year of his undergraduate program, and as a result, performed with the Geidai Philharmonia Orchestra at the Sogakudo Morning Concert.
Upon graduation, he won the Dokokai Award and performed at the Dokokai Rookie Concert, and in 2019 he became a scholarship student for the Aoyama Music Foundation, and a 2019 Segi Arts Foundation short-term overseas training scholarship student.
He studied saxophone under Naoyuki Hirai, Yusuke Horie, Yukazu Hayashida, Masanori Oishi, Chikazumi Arimura, Makoto Hondo, and Nobuya Sugawa, and chamber music under Nobuya Sugawa, Takumi Kainuma, and Makoto Hondo.
He also attended master classes by Arno Bornkamp, Alexander Souillart, Jerome Laran, and Nikita Zimin.
