Yoko Kusaka attended Mie University, where she received a Bachelor of Music degree in 2007 and a Master of Music degree in 2009. She worked as an elementary and high school music teacher in the Mie prefecture for six years, and in 2015 she entered graduate school at the Kunitachi College of Music. In 2017, Kusaka graduated from the Kunitachi CoM with a Master of Music degree in saxophone performance.

In 2016, she was a participant in the 2016 Frederick L. Hemke Saxophone Institute in Sidney, Maine, where she studied with Dr. Frederick Hemke and Dr. John Sampen. Her primary teachers include Masato Kumoi and Yusuke Horie. Kusaka is currently a doctoral student at the Kunitachi College of Music and regularly performs throughout Japan as both a soloist and chamber musician. Additionally, she is a member of the Snow Pond Saxophone Quartet, which was formed by American and Japanese Saxophonists.
