Sonia Tcherepanov (b. 1999) was born and raised in Lübeck, Germany. When she was six years old, she started piano lessons with her parents, both of whom are professional musicians. Six years later, Sonia began to study classical saxophone under the instruction of Lilja Russanowa. During this period, she gained experience through her ensembles, and her performances in masterclasses and competitions. As a soloist and member of the saxophone quartet of Lilja Russanowa, she attended masterclasses given by Christian Wirth, Daniel Gauthier, Jean-Denis Michat, Sergey Kolesov, the Raschèr Quartet and the Signum Quartet. She won first prizes at the federal level of the competition "Jugend Musiziert" as a soloist and as a member of "Passion du Saxophone"(saxophone quartet). She also received first prize in an international competition for classical saxophone in 2015 in Lübeck (with Jean-Denis Michat, Daniel Gauthier, Rico Gubler and Christian Wirth in the Jury).
At the age of 16, Sonia became a member of Prof. Rico Gubler’s studio at the Conservatory of Lübeck. During her studies, she participated in master classes with Marcus Weiss, Johannes Thorel, Dejan Presicek, Raphael Camenisch, Nikita Zimin, Asya Fateyeva, Frank Lunte, Arno Bornkamp, Jean-Michel Goury and Laurent Estoppey. Additionally, Sonia played in the MHL Big band, directed by Prof. Bernd Ruf, with whom she went on a tour with in Taiwan in 2017, and recorded a CD in the winter of 2018.
Her duet with her father Sergej Tcherepanov (organ/piano/harpsichord) has toured in many countries in Europe, such as Germany, Lithuania, Estonia and Russia. Future concerts are planned already.
In October 2018, Sonia received an advancement award of the international service club "Kiwanis". Every fourth year the Club supports students of the conservatory in Lübeck.
Sonia is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Music degree with Professor Marie-Bernadete Charier in Bordeaux, France.
